Dear Nikon,
I am a new owner of a D40 and to tell you the truth, I like everything
about it except that it is missing AEB. Why would you force a user to
pay more money for a feature that can easily be implemented through a
firmware update. I understand charging users more money for better
senors or optics but more money for software is not cool. I hope that
AEB can be integrated in the next firmware, and by doing so you will
prove that you are listening to your customers and meeting their needs
Thanks in advance.

I just want to express my agreement to this comment. The missing bracketing is the most annoying miss of a feature in the D40. Couldn't have been difficult to implement it...
I agree with this post and have searched extensively for a way to AEB on the D40. Less expensive and lesser quality point and shoot cams come with AEB. This issue alone has put a bad taste in my mouth about Nikon. I assumed any SLR would have this feature and was disappointed to find out after the fact that the D40 does not have it. Shame on you, Nikon.
After about 1 and a half year using D40 and getting good grip on using its features. I now really feel need of AEB and other enhancements like ISO and AWB shortcut buttons.
I think I might upgrade to Canon as the basic model of Canon compared to D40 has more features.
I strongly agree with comments above that taken into consideration the mechanism and excellent parts Nikon has a firmware upgrade will preserve customers.
