Dear Nikon,
Your range of DSLR is really very balanced, and today is by far the best available, BUT please don’t forget people that need a Silent Shooting Mode!!
I have a D3 gear for theatre shooting and I still have to keep Canon gear (1DMkIII)
due to its “Silent Shooting Mode”: during theater sessions is absolutely essential as people at theaters
don’t let photographers shoot with noisy cameras. And unfortunately your flagships cameras like D3 and D700
are too much noisy and much noisier than Canon 1DMkIII.

I AGREEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
I absolutely agree with you as well! Some kind of provision for a "silent mode" is necessary. I own both a Nikon D3 and D300, both are so noisy that I am not able to use them in many situations:
shooting on a film set
theater performances
weddings
candid/stealth photography
Indeed, I may be forced to jump ship to Canon just so I can continue working as a photographer.
Nikon, why oh why do you not give us the ability to lock up the mirror--the noisiest part of picture taking--and USE that gorgeous LCD fulltime as an alternate view/focus system? Sure, in situations where camera noise is not an issue I prefer to work traditionally, i.e., through the optical viewfinder. BUT GIVE US THE OPTION FOR A "SILENT" OR "STEALTH" MODE!!!
I also agree!!! I echo everything said above. PLEASE NIKON, even if you must pay a patent licensing fee to Canon...(just a guess)...this is a VERY BASIC feature that is very needed.
