Coolpix P6000 won't be on my shopping list

Dear Nikon,

Over the past 30 years I have spent untold thousands of US dollars on your fine equipment, starting with a Nikkormat camera and some fine prime lenses.

I currently shoot with a D300 and a 5-lens kit, but the camera that travels with me everywhere is a Canon point-and-shoot, as it is small and produces great images.

Yes; I was SO looking forward to the return of RAW to an upscale Nikon point-and-shoot and to replace that Canon! Yes; I have a PC—not a MAC--and use Capture NX2 along with PSCS3, Lightroom 2.0 and a host of other programs.

NO; the P6000 won’t be on my shopping list due to your decision to offer the NRW format. I would gladly change my point-and-shoot to a RAW-capable camera, but I am not willing to alter my workflow, especially after mastering Capture NX and paying for the CNX2 upgrade.

Sincerely,

Dr. M. S.

New Primes...

Dear Nikon,

Why is it taking you so long to match and surpass Canon? I see Canon shooter after Canon shooter with high speed sharp glass. You have answered part of our prayers with the D3 and now the D700, but where are the fast primes? Why not bring back an updated 28 1.4, just not so expensive this time. Or maybe a 24 and 35 1.4. And how about some 1.2 lenses? Update the 50 and the 85. I don't like the EOS bodies, but I'm so jealous of that Canon glass. We don't need any more kit lenses or all in one zooms. I'm looking forward to next year when I've saved up some money to buy a D700, hopefully there's some new glass for me to buy along with it.

Thank you,

Modular solid state drive

Dear Nikon,

As solid state drives are getting bigger, I would like to see Nikon offer the modular capability using solid state drives (similar to the one being used by Dell computers).

Capture NX2

Dear Nikon,

I would like to see all of the Nikon add-on products be available as add-ons for Capture NX2 and later products.

Nikon D3 ISO setting

Dear Nikon,

Here is another one I found about the ISO setting on the Nikon D3:

New RAW formats

Dear Nikon,

Please don't confuse us with new RAW formats. If you are going to change to something, please let it be DNG, not NRW. You are spreading uncertainty about the future of your already complicated work flow principles and making it harder for everybody. If you want to sell your own software, make it better, don't hinder others.

Split Flash

Dear Nikon:

I would really love to see a split flash> a unit w/ two heads, one that can be bounced off the ceiling, and one that can directly illuminate the subject.

I don't think that any manufacturers have tried something like this, and you could probably nab a lot of defectors if it is executed well.

Also, the SB800 and SB900 need another sensor on the other side of the flash unit.

Have a great day!
