Mirrorless Nikon DSLR

Dear Nikon,

In today's environment, it would seem that we could advance camera to the point that we could eliminate the mirror and any vibration from the mirror -- so when can Nikon camera go mirrorless

thanks

Option to automatically rotate images in Nikon Transfer

Dear Nikon,

I'd love to see an option to automatically rotate tall images while transferring in Nikon Transfer. This option was available in the former software package Picture Project but sadly it is missing from the current Nikon Transfer version. This option is actually very handy as still there are a lot of applications around which cannot handle the EXIF orientation header properly (including Windows' own pic viewer.. ;)

Thanks

Linux users also love Nikon

Dear Nikon,

I would like to know why the software that goes with the cameras never includes a Linux version, only Mac and Windows.
Can Nikon be the first?

Thanks
Sergio

DNG Format

Dear Nikon,

Please provide an option for capturing images in Adobe Digital Negative (DNG) format. NEF is fine and may provide some benefit to Nikon but such proprietary formats accomplish nothing for your CUSTOMER. Some cameras already record in DNG and I would hate to see Canon get on the DNG bandwagon before Nikon and give us just one more reason to switch to Canon (Ashton Kutcher as a Nikon spokesperson is already out there as one big reason - please DUMP him).

Thanks for listening.

Basic AF-S primes

Dear Nikon,

since you have invested on DX, with only a very recent couple of full frames, why forcing buyers of less expensive cameras to buy very, very expensive lenses, and why leaving the inexpensive primes (like THE 50mm F/1.8) to owners of very, very expensive cameras, and why your definition of standard lens=50mm continues to be related to the FX format even if the D3 and D700 were out only in 2008?

This does not make sense.

Please, PLEASE, put out some inexpensive AF-S standard primes for DX, a 28mm F/1.8, or something the Sigma 30mm F/1.4, but at Nikon level! Something to go on the D60 and on my D40, with matching price.

HDR Photography

Dear Nikon,

I represent a huge multitude of HDR photographers on my photoblog at http://www.stuckincustoms.com . I've been lucky enough to meet many of them in different parts of the world to shoot. Most of us shoot with Nikon, and we all share the common woes:

- With high-end cameras, we'd like the autobracketing to do -2, 0, +2, instead of requiring 5 shots at -2, -1, 0, +1, +2. How this simple thing is not configurable is beyond all of us.
- For all these exposures, we want the mirror to stay locked up. There's no need for it to flip up and down with every shot. This isn't some da Vinci mechanical device.
- We like to just press the button once, then have it take all the exposures.
- We would like to have a timer that lets us press the button then just wait 1 or 2 seconds (for the button-touch to stop the camera shake), and then take all the exposures.
- We would like the features above to be in a macro mode, each of which are configurable. My friend Valerio in Italy might like 7 exposures with a 5 second button delay -- my friend KrisKros in LA might like 3 exposures with no delay -- my friend Ben on a bus might like to take 9 exposures with no delay and constant mirror-lockup while hanging backwards off a pink caddy... We know all of this stuff is right there in the software, so please open up the options and let us assign cascading choices in a macro.

On behalf of frustrated HDR photographers around the world,
Trey Ratcliff

Coolpix 8800

Dear Nikon:

I love my D200 but needed a back-up. Right as I was about to buy a new one, it was removed from the market.

I liked it b/c of the resolution, size (not too big or too small) and the rear view panel.

I hope that an updated version finds its way to the market @ a sensible price.

Thanks,

PhotoPete

Focus motor in the D90

Dear Nikon,

Please, please PLEASE put a focus motor in the D90.
One of the biggest selling points of your system is
the huge body of lenses of so many vintages which can
be used on your cameras in one fashion or another.
Don't spoil that good thing.

-Your anxious devotee

50mm AF-S prime lens

Dear Nikon,

When can we expect a 50mm AF S prime lens? There must be a general demand as Sigma are selling 50mm HSM primes but I would rather buy Nikon - so when?
Otherwise delighted with Nikon.

Custom Setting Banks on D300, Bracketing Button

Dear Nikon,

A small suggestion. When changing from one custom bank to another on the D300, the images are not saved to the folder being used by the first bank. rather, they get saved to the folder last used by the new bank.
Could you please fix it so that images are saved to the same folder irrespective of which custom bank is being used.

Also a suggestion for new high end cameras -- please have a quick bracketing button to include bracketing of picture styles. E.G. the same shot being bracketed in Vivid, Standard. Neutral etc.

That would be very useful.

cheers.

Custom Setting Banks for consumer DSLRs

Dear Nikon,

Please include custom setting banks in your future consumer DSLRs (D40/D60/D80 in present lineup). Better still, put them on the modes dial.

Nikon DSLR with build in GPS

Dear Nikon,

I would like to see a build in GPS in all camera above the D300 line. Currently an add-on GPS is about $100 - $150 and they are pretty small in size, so I don't see any financial or technological problems with that.

Amazon currently has:

Nikon point & shoot camera with Foveon X3 sensor
